The St. Anthony Foundation (SAF) project is a 43,000-square-foot, five-story building with a full basement. The new building will be located in a dense urban area in the footprint of an existing building, close to transportation and neighborhood services. The project includes a kitchen and dining room, a clinic on the second floor, and offices on the third, fourth, and fifth floors. The basement will be used for food storage, receiving, and kitchen volunteer/staff facilities. Roof terraces are located at the second and fifth floors. The project is registered under the LEED for New Construction rating system with the goal of achieving a LEED Silver rating. SAF's goal is to reduce the building's total annual energy use by over 30% using efficient heating and cooling systems. And the use of low-flow plumbing fixtures, such as dual-flush toilets, will reduce the amount water the building consumes by about 20%. Carpet, paint, and adhesives used in the project will be low-VOC-emitting products, reducing the offgassing of harmful chemicals into the interior environment, and many of the other building materials used in the project, such as concrete and steel, have high levels of recycled content. Furthermore, the builders intend to recycle over 75% of the demolished materials and leftover construction scrap.
