The City College of San Francisco's Performing Arts Center will consist of three major performance venues, support spaces for the venues, and classroom and office space for the drama and music programs. The performance venues will include a 650-seat multi-purpose auditorium, a 150-seat studio theater, and a 150-seat recital hall. The project is registered under the LEED for New Construction rating system. A campus goal is to have living roofs on all new buildings, and the Performing Arts Center will have a 30,000-square-foot living roof. The project's site will be 30-40% pervious, with natural topography, and the building's density will fit into the fabric of the campus and the neighborhoods around it. A central plant will be located within the Performing Arts Center; it will improve overall energy efficiency by reducing systems redundancy and using high-performance equipment. The project will also strive to minimize construction waste and maximize recycled content of all materials. Using dual-flush toilets, waterless urinals, metered faucets, low-flow showers, and efficient landscape irrigation will achieve significant reductions in water use. Low- and no-VOC products will be selected throughout the project. And a green cleaning program is planned.
