A new 165,000-square-foot home for Berkeley City College (BCC)
has been constructed in downtown Berkeley. BCC is part of the Peralta
Community College District. The project achieved a LEED Silver rating.
The building is highly energy efficient; it was designed to have
energy savings of 43.8% beyond California's Title-24 energy code
requirements. Furthermore, it is an urban infill project near public
transportation, and it features a variety of green materials and
design strategies, including an Energy Star-rated "cool" (reflective)
roof, as well as recycled-content and low-emitting materials. In
addition, the project has achieved most of the LEED credits related
to indoor environmental quality, including thermal comfort and increased
ventilation effectiveness.
